Job Title: Behavior Intervention Paraprofessional
Reports To: Principal and/or Assistant Principal
Location: Diamond Elementary

Position Summary:

The Behavior Intervention Paraprofessional supports students with behavioral, emotional, and social challenges in an elementary school setting. This role involves implementing behavior intervention plans, working closely with teachers and support staff, and helping students develop appropriate social and coping skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to students exhibiting challenging behaviors, both in the classroom and in other school environments.

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Monitor and record student behavior data to track progress and identify trends.

  • Support teachers in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.

  • Use proactive strategies to de-escalate conflict and disruptive behavior.

  • Reinforce appropriate student behavior through consistent use of positive behavior supports.

  • Collaborate with special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support student goals.

  • Escort or supervise students as needed during transitions, breaks, or in designated calm-down areas.

  • Participate in regular training on behavior intervention techniques and safety procedures.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or two years of college preferred.

  • Experience working with children with behavioral or emotional needs strongly preferred.

  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Physical ability to support students in crisis (may include standing, walking, restraining if trained/certified, etc.).

  • Training in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar program preferred or willingness to be trained.
