Director of Special Services
The Diamond School District is seeking applicants for the Director of Special Services for the 2026-2027 school year. The Director position requires the organization and administration of special education and related services to students with disabilities. The Director ensures that educational services are provided according to local policy, state regulations and federal regulations.
Qualified candidates will have the following:
- Special Education certification (State of Missouri)
- 5 years of successful special education classroom experience
- Special Education administrative certification (State of Missouri)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Job Duties include:
-Administer a positive program of special services designed to meet the needs of the schools in the district.
-Recommend policies for administration, organization, personnel management and other functions of the program.
-Submit annual budget recommendations. Manage budget and finance directly related to projects directly under director’s supervision.
-Keep the local plan for special services current.
-Assist in the development and execution of policies governing the classification and placement of students in the special services classes.
-Work with school psychologists or counselors, principals and others in placement procedures for special services.
-Administer the English Language Learner (EL) program.
-Maintain records for migrant students.
-Coordinate 504 program
-Attend Evaluation, IEP and other special services meetings.
-Active engagement in Southwest Local Administrators of Special Education (SW-LASE) and MOCASE.
-Active involvement in the Beacon Board of Directors.
-Active engagement in community activities that benefit our students.
-Coordinate Foster Student/Bill Back.
-Supervise supplemental services for students with special needs.
-Supervise district School District Administrative Claiming (SDAC)
-Coordinate the Local Tax Effort, High Need Fund and Public Placement Fund billing.
-Carry out the responsibilities of Homeless Children Coordinator.
-Coordinate homebound instruction as needed.
-Function as the Title IX Coordinator for the district.
-Act as the Compliance Officer for the district.
-Maintain all records necessary for state reports and file such reports with the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
-Ensure compliance with all State and Federal guidelines for Special Education and Section 504.
-Evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
-To function as liaison for the school district in matters evaluating pupils who need special services that are offered outside the district.
-Demonstrate effective and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, students and the community and the ability to work as a productive and solid member of the school district team.
-Other duties as assigned.
The Special Education Director reports to the superintendent. Salary range is dependent on experience and education and will be according to the salary schedule.
